Sustainability is a mindset that guides all of our decision making, from the products we launch to the materials we use and the people and partners we work with. Love for nature is the reason for Astrid Wild’s existence, and we want to do our utmost to preserve it. We commit to continuously learn, adapt, innovate and simply become better in making responsible choices.

Products and design

We strive to design durable garments that stand the test of time in terms of both design as well as quality. Each piece is carefully considered to have a purpose for the user, to create an offering of outdoor essentials for women worldwide. We have no seasonal collections, but each garment is envisioned to stay relevant for years to come. With our direct-to-consumer business model and local sourcing we can manufacture products in a demand-driven manner, helping us avoid over-production and large quantities of undated products that need to be disposed.

We are a design-driven company, and we put a great amount of focus on developing products that meet the needs of our customers. We value simplicity, both in our garments and in our packaging, focusing on the important elements and trimming all the unnecessary. We see ourselves agile and fast, but we don’t produce fast fashion.

Key element of a garment is the material it is made of, and we use high-quality materials that promote durability and functionality. Use of natural and recycled fibers is important to us, and we will continuously seek materials that best combine functionality with low environmental footprint. The materials choices for our products are described below:

Astrid Avant-Garde Outdoor Pants

The pants are made out of high-tech fabric produced in Borås, Sweden, by FOV. The fabric is a mix of polyamide and a bit of elastane to bring comfortable stretch into the product. Being highly functional, the fabric is durable, breathable, water-repellent and quick-drying. Durable water repellency (DWR) treatment is fluorocarbon free to reduce harmful impact to the environment. The fabric is Öko-tex Standard 100 certified. Minna Wool Fleece products

The wool fleece fabric is supplied by the renowned Italian fabric producer Pontetorto. It is a snuggly and functional mix of recycled wool and polyester. In addition to the comfortable snuggly feeling, wool provides efficient thermal regulation, while polyester allows the garment to dry rapidly and adds to the durability. The fabric is Öko-tex Standard 100 certified. You can read more about Pontetorto’s sustainability work here.

The front placket and pockets are made out of the fabric used in the Astrid Avant-Garde Outdoor Pants supplied by FOV. This enables us to reuse scrap fabric from production of the pants and diminish the amount of fabric waste.

Aleksandra Merino Wool products and Nina the Neckwarmer

These items are made out of a functional fabric mix of merino wool and polyester produced by the renowned Italian fabric producer Pontetorto. This moisture wicking fabric provides breathability, heat regulation features and odour control of merino wool, while the polyester makes it quick-drying and extra durable. The fabric is Öko-tex Standard 100 certified. You can read more about Pontetorto’s sustainability work here

We aim to find the best possible partners to work with for each garment we produce, and create long-lasting partnerships. We want to streamline sourcing geographically and have materials and production close to each other to avoid unnecessary transportation from one corner of the world to another.

Our products are currently all manufactured in Kaunas, Lithuania, in two high-quality factories specialising in the types of products in questions. The Astrid Avant-Garde Outdoor Pants are manufactured by UAB Tindra and the Minna Wool Fleece products and Aleksandra Merino Wool product are manufactured by UAB Tebesa.

In order to avoid material waste, we store all material scrap generated from production, and use in various ways.

Reuse and repair

Our aim to to make products that last for years to come, for our customers to pass on or resell to new users. If you, down the line, for a reason or another, feel that you don’t need the garment any longer, please contact us so we can help you recycle or resell the products.

In addition, we are happy to help you with any questions regarding repairs or if you need extra items for your product, such as buttons.
