Frequently asked questions on women's outdoor clothing

What are the best hiking clothes for women?

The best hiking clothes for women fit your body, work in layers and suit the weather you’re out in. A good setup is a merino base layer, a warm wool fleece, high-waisted hiking pants that match your leg length, and a 3L shell jacket and pants for rain and wind. Choose pieces you can wear on the trail and in everyday life, like on the commute, a dog walk or the playground. Clothing you wear every day is better value than gear that only comes out for big trips.

How should women layer outdoor clothing for different weather?

Use three layers you can add or remove as conditions change. A 100% merino base layer manages moisture and temperature next to the skin. A wool-blend fleece or vest adds warmth when it’s cold or windy, without making you sweaty when you’re on the move, and can be worn on its own in spring and fall. A 3L shell jacket and pants protect you from rain and wind. On a warm, dry day, a merino t-shirt with outdoor pants or shorts is often enough. In cold, wet weather, like fall in the Nordics, wear all three layers.

Which outdoor clothing brands are made for women’s bodies?

Outdoor clothing brands made for women’s bodies design their clothing from scratch for female proportions, rather than adapting men’s or unisex patterns. You can tell by the waist and hip proportions, the choice of fits and leg lengths, and the size range. Astrid Wild designs outdoor clothing for women only, with high waists and fits made for female shapes. Products are developed with input from thousands of women, sizes run from XXS to 5XL, and most pants come in 42 sizes, including three leg lengths.

Are there hiking clothes for plus-size women?

Yes. At Astrid Wild, we offer outdoor and hiking clothes in sizes XXS to 5XL, from plus-size hiking pants to fleece jackets and base layers. Pants come in sizes 32–58. Some of our pants have stretchy, elastic or adjustable waistbands that adapt to different body shapes. We show key garment measurements for all our products, and some products also have a size recommender. Our customer service team can always help you choose a size based on your measurements.

Are there hiking pants for petite and tall women?

Most Astrid Wild pants, including the Astrid Outdoor Pants and Amelia Hiking Pants, come in three leg lengths: short (74 cm / 29 in), regular (79 cm / 31 in) and tall (85 cm / 33.5 in). Each length is available in sizes 32–58, so you can choose your waist size and leg length separately. To find your length, measure your inseam from the crotch to the ankle and compare it with the size guide. Our product photos show each model’s height and the size and length she’s wearing, and our customer service team is always happy to help.
