As our aim is to provide you with timeless pieces to wear and love for years to come, we would like to share some easy steps on how to care for your clothing in the best possible way.

1. How to store them

There are a few ways of storing your garments that will help them maintain their shape and quality. With that said – not all garments benefit from the same care. Knitted garments (like our wool products) should always be gently folded. This is to minimize stretch from hangers. Pants are kept straight and wrinkle-free by using hangers, but it won’t hurt folding them. Remember to store your clothing in a dry place, as they easily absorb moisture which can lead to mold.

2. How to wash and clean

First of all, try not to wash your garments unless you really need to. Especially wool, which has natural anti-bacterial and odor-resistant properties making washing largely redundant, and washing puts unnecessary stress on the garment. Wool garments can also be refreshed after wearing them by hanging them in a steamy bathroom. The moisture from the steam will remove wrinkles, and airing them will make odors go away.

If you get a stain, you can rather consider trying to spot clean the item instead of throwing it in the machine. When the garment gets smelly, try using a gentle clothing mist, by our friends at Pure EffectPure Effect develops a new generation of care products for clothes ans shoes using resource-efficient biotechnology that enables the best odor removal one can wish for without traditional washing. Less washing, longer lasting and less climate footprint.

If you need to wash the garments, remember not to overload the washer. Cramming it as full as possible does not leave room for clothes to move easily and causes damage to the surface of them. Also, remember to close all zippers, so that the zipper teeth won't harm the fabric. If you are washing wool garments, use the wool cycle. If your washing machine does not have a wool cycle, use the cold water wash or wash cycle for delicates.

Tip: Use a gentle detergent suited for the fabric of your garment. There are a few alternatives out there better suited for example wool, we love this one. And always check the washing instructions for each garment on their tag.

3. How to prevent pilling

Pills are usually found on the areas of clothing that receive the most abrasion in day-to-day use, such as under the arms, around the collar and cuffs, between the thighs, and on the rear of pants, but can happen anywhere on fabric.

While it is difficult to predict which fabrics will pill, there are some types of fabrics that are more prone to pilling. Knitted fabrics tend to pill more than woven fabrics because the threads are looser. Fabrics made of long fibers like silk and linen pill less than wool, cotton, polyester, and other synthetic threads.

How to prevent pills on your garment

  • Use the washer's gentle cycle. The slower agitation and shorter wash cycle will protect your clothes.
  • Before washing any garment, turn it inside out. This prevents excessive abrasion to the surface of the fabric from other clothes, zippers, and buttons.
  • Sort clothes properly. Washing delicate items in the same load as jeans will cause more abrasion and harm to the surface of fabrics.
  • Skip harsh cleaners and damaging bleaches which can weaken fibers causing them to break and pill.
  • Buy a pill remover: We love this one from Steamery.
